#OldNewGate Open House - Saturday. The State office of Culture & Tourism owns and operates 4 historic sites. For years Old New-Gate Prison was far and away the most popular of the four. Its been closed for more than ten years. Tami Zawistowski and a citizens advisory group have been persistent in advocating for its restoration and reopening. If all goes well that will begin next summer. The State historic preservation division of Culture & Tourism is mostly involved in historic preservation, not so much managing, much less promoting and programming museums. New-Gate has the potential to be the flagship of a regional tourism effort. New-Gate could be one of the flagships of that region. It will not happen by accident. Look what's here! Many states and regions would envy such an abundance of uniques treasures."
